Baby Boy’s First Birthday Cake Smash Session in Blue
Sometimes simple is better. When I spoke with Riyan’s mommy about what she envisioned for his first birthday pictures, she said that she wanted a blue and gold cake smash. The beauty about cake smash sessions is that each one is different, and the creative possibilities are endless. But sometimes you don’t need an elaborate theme to make a spectacular impression. Just a simple color scheme will do the trick. In this case, we went all in with blue and gold, and I love how it came out!
Blue and Gold Cake Smash Photo Props
I set the stage for this cake smash photoshoot with my Savage seamless background paper in the color Sky Blue. I love using my seamless paper for cake smash photo sessions because it is so easy to clean up afterwards. All I do is cut off the portion that gets dirty with cake. Not to mention these rolls come in so many great colors! Next I strung a gold circle garland and then a custom-made pennant banner in various shades of blue. I topped it off with matching balloons and tissue pom-poms. Everything looked perfect for a blue and gold cake smash.
The birthday boy and his parents were wonderful to work. They made sure to bring the perfect cake and outfit to match the props that I was providing. His mommy even brought some small wooden letters that spell O-N-E to use as props, which made for some really cute pictures. She dressed him in a blue diaper cover, suspenders, and a little bow tie. Many parents choose baby suspenders as a cake smash outfit for little boys, and I love how it looks. The cake was custom ordered to have blue frosting and edible gold glitter on top. I find that the best cake smash photo sessions happen when I work in conjunction with the parents to make sure and really bring their vision to life. And we truly nailed it for this session, if I do say so myself!
Cute Cake Smash Photos
I have so many favorite images from this session! This little guy was a pleasure to photograph, and he had the most genuine smiles! It definitely helped that both his mommy and daddy attended the session and stayed right by my side as we all clapped and sang and cheered him on. He truly enjoyed his cake and gave us plenty of great photo ops, which made his mommy and daddy happy. And made me happy too! These sessions are so much fun, and I probably enjoy them as much or even more than the parents.
