Mom, Dad, and Big Brother welcome Baby Girl!
My newborn clients are about an equal mix of first time parents welcoming their first baby, and families with one or more children already at home. I must admit I have a soft spot for families of four, since that is the makeup of my own family as well. And especially when its an older brother at home welcoming a baby sister. Because, well, I had my son first and then my daughter! But no matter the birth order or how many children are living at home, the arrival of a new baby is always cause for celebration. Here I’m happy to share this sweet family of four newborn session with an older brother and a newborn baby sister.
Family Newborn Studio Session
I met this sweet family when they came to my studio for their newborn and family portrait session. Its always a bit of a wildcard when the older sibling is in the 2-3 year old range, but I must say this little guy was extremely well behaved! We planned to do the family portraits first, so that dad and big brother could leave if needed. Then mom and baby stay behind to finish up the remainder of the session. This is always a great idea and highly recommended for a family of four newborn session whenever possible. Newborn sessions can last between 2-3 hours, and this is much too long for a toddler to sit around and wait. As any mom of a toddler will agree!
Newborn and Sibling Portraits
We started out their session with the sibling pictures. As an NJ Newborn Photographer, these shots are always among my favorite! I laid down my soft Luneberry rug in the color Winter White. This is one of my favorite photography props because it is neutral and goes with just about anything! I asked big brother to lay down with one arm sticking out, and that is where I placed baby sister. Its always interesting to see what the older sibling will do. Sometimes its a bit of a challenge to get them to stay put! But this little guy sweetly snuggled with his new baby sister. He gave us some cute smiles and even gave her a little kiss on her head. It was so sweet!
Newborn and Family Portraits
Next we moved on to the family portion. Their clothing was all coordinated in light tones, which looked great. I always recommend that families dress in neutral colors since it looks so classic. I placed baby in mom’s arms and assembled everyone around mom. With dad at the top and big brother to the side, they formed the perfect triangle. This is my favorite formation for a family of four newborn session. Everyone was smiling and holding hands, I could tell they had such a strong bond. And most importantly, they seemed to be having a great time together! I would definitely say this sweet family of four absolutely rocked their portrait session.
Of course after the family portion, I had to get some pictures of the star of the show! We used pink and cream photography props for these setups. This matched the cream tones in the family pictures. And I used the same flokati rug for some of the newborn poses as I did in the sibling poses. I always make sure that all my setups look beautiful together in case mom wants to make a wall gallery at home with different images from the session.
