Preparing for your Ordering Appointment to choose your Images and Artwork
With your portrait session over, the hard work is behind us and now its time for the fun part – the ordering appointment! This is when we will get to review the images from your session together. Its so exciting and sometimes emotional to look back and see the beautiful images of your loved ones that we created during this special time in your life. You may be wondering how you will narrow down the images or choose what to order. Don’t worry, I am here to help and and offer expert advice and recommendations along the way.
Viewing the Images
Whether we meet for your ordering appointment in person or virtually, we will be seeing digital proofs on my computer screen. The images may have some minor exposure and color correction filters applied, but are still unfinished. We will discuss retouching as we are viewing the images, and I will share what a typical edit would entail. You won’t be seeing every single image that I took, but a selection of the best images from each setup.
I will scroll through the thumbnails at first to give you an idea of how many images we have to choose from. Then I will go through each large image one at a time. When you see an image you like, I will flag it. After we have gone through all of the images, I will pull up your flagged images to refine your selection further. Ultimately, you will decide on your keepers!
It is important that all decision-makers attend the ordering appointment. This will allow us to confidently move forward and complete your selections during our allotted time together. We will also finalize and pay for your order at the conclusion of this appointment.
Choosing your Artwork
If you came in for a studio session, such as newborn or baby portraits, you may have glanced at the product samples on display. I will go over the products with you during our ordering appointment as well, so don’t worry if you didn’t get to see them or aren’t sure what you want just yet. I will also describe the products for you in this post below.
Matted Print Collections
Most people choose to bundle their favorite images into a Print Collection. It’s the best way to get the most images at a value price. I currently offer three Print Collection sets. They range from just a few images – for those who only want a handful of images – up to 25 images for those who are looking for a larger gallery. Additional images can be purchased individually or in sets of 10.
Fine Art Deckled Edge Prints
In addition to our Lustre prints, which come standard in every Print Collection, we also offer premium Deckled Edge Prints. These images are printed on thick cotton paper and torn around the edges. They are ultra luxurious and completely handmade. All of our prints are produced in a fine art lab here in the US that works exclusively with professional photographers. Your prints come with a lifetime guarantee from yellowing or fading.
Our Portrait Albums start with 15 images and offer the same value pricing as our Print Collections. Expertly designed to showcase your images in remarkable fashion. You will get to personalize your album with a cameo or special message on the cover, as well as your choice of linen, leather or silk fabric in a variety of beautiful colors and textures.
Our album supplier is originally a small European bindery, and their product is still handmade by some of the finest album artisans in the world. Your images are printed on thick lay-flat pages with a smooth matte surface. We use archival pigment inks that provide 100+ years of colorfastness, making this an enduring heirloom for generations. Duplicate albums are also available to order at a special savings.
The Canvas Wrap is part of our Wall Art Collections, and a wonderful way to display your favorite image or grouping of images in your home. Your image is printed on photographic paper and then expertly pressed onto thick cotton canvas. The canvas is then wrapped around a 2″ wooden stretcher frame and finished with hanging hardware. Your canvas is constructed by hand from start to finish, including an application of acrylic paint brushed on as a finishing touch. People often remark how much these resemble “paintings” in the end. They are truly a masterpiece!
Take your Canvas up a notch by including a custom frame offered exclusively by our studio. They are made from 100% real wood and hand-built especially for your Canvas. These frames truly make your Canvas feel like a substantial piece of art for your home. No glass covering is needed when framing our Canvas. We offer frames in a variety of colors and styles ranging from modern to ornate, so you are sure to find something you love.
Our Framed Prints come with UV-shielding acrylic that is non-glare and abrasion resistant. You can frame your image with or without a mat, and choose from a Lustre or Deckled Edge Print. Our exclusive “Collage Frame” includes four of your favorite images in a specially cut mat so that you can display them as a grouping all in one custom frame. A variety of frame colors and styles are available to match any home decor.
Along with your artwork purchase, every image that you order will also come with the accompanying digital file. Your files will be delivered in an online gallery with download and print rights, printable up to 8×10. The online gallery will be hosted for three weeks, and your finished files are kept on archive in the studio for one year after that.
What to Expect After the Ordering Appointment
After we have finalized your order, your images will get sent to my retoucher right away. The editing process usually takes between 1-2 weeks to hand-retouch every image in photoshop. When your finished files are ready, your artwork order will get sent to the appropriate print labs for fulfillment and your digital files will get uploaded to an online gallery. You will receive a link to your gallery via email along with instructions on how to download your files.
Your printed artwork will have a lead time of 4-6 weeks, depending on the order. Once your artwork is ready, I will contact you so that we can arrange for a pickup or delivery. The final reveal of your fine art Prints, Album, or Wall Art is always my favorite part of the entire portrait process!
