Sequins and Snowflakes, Oh My! A Winter ONEderland Cake Smash to Celebrate Baby Girl’s First Birthday
Planning a cake smash photo session is always so much fun. Sometimes parents come to me with a great idea that they love, and then we work together to build out that vision. Other times, we brainstorm ideas together. If your little one has a birthday in the winter, then a cute idea is a Winter ONEderland cake smash!
A Winter ONEderland theme is a cute and fun cake smash idea for either a boy or a girl. In this case, I was working with a darling baby girl, so of course we had to play up the pink! But this idea could work for a boy by swapping out a blue background instead. In fact, it would look even more frosty in blue!
Props for a Winter ONEderland Cake Smash
For this Winter ONEderland cake smash, I started with my Savage seamless backdrop in the color Coral. I think this is the perfect pink color for girls! Next I hung up some sheer draping along the back with some snowflake garlands hanging in front. Mommy brought in some sparkly cone shaped trees along with a matching silver garland. And of course, the letters ONE, which were decorated with sparkly snowflakes and glitter. A few shimmery balloons added a nice touch as well. It felt very wintery and festive, without being holiday specific.
Sparkly Snowflake Cake
For the cake, mommy brought in an adorable pink ombre cake. The frosting was piped in rosettes, and it was topped with snowflake sprinkles and edible glitter all over. The cake topper was a silver number one with a small garland of sparkly silver snowflakes going across the top. It perfectly matched the Winter ONEderland theme!
What to Wear for a ONEderland Smash
In general, you will want to prepare at least two outfits for your baby’s cake smash photo session. The first will be for clean pictures. Parents usually bring in a darling outfit, or you can browse through my prop closet for baby outfits that I keep at the studio.
The second outfit will be for the cake smash itself, and parents do need to provide this from home. Babies always look cute something simple that allows them to enjoy their cake! For this session, mommy brought in a white onesie with the word ONE written in sparkly silver letters. And of course, a pink tutu skirt to match. She even wore a sparkly hat which resembled the sparkly cone shaped trees in the background. It was all so cute and worked perfectly for the Winter ONEderland cake smash theme!
