Airplane Themed Cake Smash

Red, White and Blue Airplane Theme to Celebrate Baby’s First Birthday

I have some of the cutest – and messiest! – little clients come into my studio. Cake smash sessions are so much fun, and this little guy’s airplane themed cake smash was no exception.  His mommy brought some adorable decorations from his birthday party that we used for his photoshoot.  I always consult with parents before a cake smash session to discuss the props and setup.  This planning portion can be so much fun and helps us come up with the perfect creative idea for your baby’s cake smash photos!

Airplane Themed Cake and Props

Mommy wanted red, white, and blue colors for this airplane themed cake smash.  I think these colors looked great and gave it a very American vibe!  I started with my Savage seamless background in the color Sky Blue.  Next I complemented it with some matching balloons.  Finally, I strung a red, white and blue pennant banner that I made just for this cake smash session.  His mommy brought in some airplane theme decorations that were leftover from his birthday party, including a metal vintage airplane toy.  Birthday party decorations can make perfect props for a cake smash photo session!

The finishing touch was the cute little airplane cake.  This crafty mommy even made it herself!  It was a small cake with blue frosting and little white clouds.  It was the perfect size and oh so cute.  Not to mention, and matched the theme perfectly.

At first, the birthday boy was a little apprehensive about his cake.  Most babies don’t really know what to do with it or how to get started.  But then he dipped his little fingers into the frosting, tasted it, and then let out a huge grin!  After that, we just sat back and watched him happily eat his cake.  He ended up making an adorable mess with the blue frosting all over his face.  And that was a wrap!  Happy birthday to this airplane-loving little guy!
